Seeing your child's first loose tooth is an exciting milestone! Baby teeth naturally loosen and fall out to make way for adult teeth, but should you pull a loose baby tooth?
If the tooth barely moves, it's not ready to be removed. If it wiggles freely back and forth, it's likely ready to come out!
If your child prefers to go through the process on their own, encourage them to wiggle it with their tongue, or bite on an apple. If they are willing to accept your assistance, grab the tooth gently with a paper towel and give it a twist. Do not use force, if it takes more than a twist or two the tooth may not be ready to come out.
When to seek advice:
- Tooth is loose after an accident
- The child is less than 4 years old
- Tooth has been loose for a couple of months but not getting looser.
